Matthias Himmelmann
Position:
Race Driver and Developer
His way to MUENCH:
Matthias Himmelmann inherited the motorcycle genes from his father. At the age of 5 he already started to reach for the handlebar himself. He started his career doing mostly Moto Cross, Trial and Enduro until he eventually discovered the street racing sport. It did not take him long to accomplish his first success. During his first asphalt race he already placed first. His success story continues with the winning of both, the Euro Cup and Sports Bike Masters. Starting 2001 Matthias Himmelmann participated in the IDM (International German Championship). After a severe crash in 2002 his career seemed to have come to an end. However, in 2010 he responded to the call of MUENCH’s Head of Development Thomas Schuricht and has been working on the steady improvement of MUENCH e-bikes ever since. Since his first start as a race driver for MUENCH Racing Team in Laguna Seca in July 2010 he secured many victories for team MUENCH including the heavily embattled 2010 and 2011 European and World Championship for electrical racing sport. In addition Matthias Himmelmann worked as a repair shop supervisor, sales manager and chief executive officer in the motorbike business. Today, he combines all these activities within the MUENCH Racing GmbH and thus melds racing sport, being a race driver and profession.
Matthias Himmelmann about e-mobility:
"Due to the noise and environmental regulations I believe that e-mobility will find its way onto the world’s racetracks. Another thing I love about e-bikes is that drivers of regular bikes often wonder when I pass them without a sound."
Thomas Schuricht
Position:
MUENCH Racing GmbH Associate and Head of Development
His way to MUENCH:
Parallel to his Electrical Engineering studies Thomas Schuricht began to take charge of vehicle’s electronic control unit coding in 1988. He made a name for himself in the tuning trade and attended to the vehicles of various racing series. In 2003 he said goodbye to the Ferrari Challenge only to later participate in his first zero-emission motorbike race at the Isle of Man in 2009. The ad hoc built e-bike was a starting shot for his new career. With his know how MUENCH was able to attach to their old records and in 2011 is once again celebrated as the most successful German motorbike brand.
Thomas Schuricht about e-mobility:
"If one really looks into this technology, one will not have a doubt that in the future we will only drive electrically. Just imagine if we tried to introduce and launch an internal-combustion engine today, a technology which forces us to outdoors fill our car with highly flammable fuel. I do not dare to think about all the potential risks involved, much less the emission. For us e-powered driving has become a daily routine and it is a great pleasure. "
Thomas Petsch
Position:
MUENCH Racing GmbH Main Associate and Team Manager
His way to MUENCH:
In 1997 Thomas Petsch bought the trademark rights for MUENCH and started to develop the MUENCH Mammut 2000. With its 260 PS it is still the strongest production-model motorcycle ever manufactured. Today he is the MUENCH Racing GmbH main partner and manages the team.
Thomas Petsch about e-mobility:
"In only a few decades we manage to burn down what the earth and nature has created during millions of years. We cannot and must not continue living like that. Our grandchildren will not have another chance other than driving electrically with power generated through renewable resources. The racing sport is our chance to show the public that e-powered driving does not imply boredom. We want to show that driving pleasure and tremendous driving performance and emotionality can be achieved electrically. "
