Race Series for Electric Motorbikes
Currently there are two race series for electric motorbikes. The eGrandPrix of TTXGP was founded in 2009 and is the older of the two. In November 2009, the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme FIM founded its own e-Race series called the e-Power International Championship. Unlike the private TTXGP the e-Power International Championship is the racing series of the official World Federation of Motorsport FIM.
Shortly after the foundation of the TTXGP Zero-Emission - Race series in 2009, the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) additionally announced its own E-racing sports series for electric motorbikes. In November 2009 the e-Power International Championship was born. The different races are based on the race calendar of the other FIM motorbike Championships. This made it possible to integrate the new E-Bikes into public (fan) interest without problems. With this, the FIM created a very good basis for further developing and promoting electric powered motorbikes.
The opening race for the first World Cup was held on the 17th of April 2010 in Le Mans, France, during the legendary 24-hour race. To encourage the participating teams as well as the E-Bikes specifically, the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme took over a part of the costs for each race. This adds to the attractiveness of the race and insures a constant number of participants. Thus, less financially strong racing teams have the opportunity to measure their e-bikes to those of the competition.
The Time Trials Extreme Grand Prix is a private, international race series for electric motorbikes, in which drivers are currently competing in North America, Great Britain and Italy for the regional championships. To gain the unofficial world championship title in electric motor racing, the best regional teams compete at the international finals.
Anyone can participate who is very sparingly with carbon technologies and emission in the use of motor geared drives. Competitors are allowed to test electric motorbikes, for the first time, during a competition and therefore have direct comparison to the competition. The eGrand Prix from TTXP enabled a platform for the future development of these technologies and thus represents the origin of the electric motorcycle championships. On June 12th 2009 the worlds first race for electric motorcycles was held for the first time on the Isle of Man, an island between England and Ireland.
